A Community Commemoration of Kristallnacht in conjunction with three exhibitions
The Museum and Jewish Federation partnered in a series of programs and activities revolving around three exhibitions on view through December 28 (page down for more exhibit information):
Of Life and Loss: The Polish Photographs of Roman Vishniac and Jeffrey Gusky at the Museum
The Holocaust Archive Revealed photographs by Richard Ehrlich, and
Portraits of Survival at the Bronfman Family Jewish Community Center.
November 9, was a historic experience in our community, as people -estimated at over - from all walks of life gathered for the commemoration. The museum gallery was packed, and we heard speakers Mara Vishniac Kohn, Jeffrey Gusky, Museum Director Larry J. Feinberg, Curator Karen Sinsheimer and Portraits of Survival Director Dr. Elizabeth Wolfson.

Perched in a cultural place between Ryan Murphy’s Bette and Joan and Craig Seligman’s Sontag & Kael: Opposites Attract Me, Lili Anolik’s Didion & Babitz pairs up exemplars of their age to examine how their age let them (and pretty much most women) down. Just as Seligman made the case for an Apollonian Susan Sontag and a Dionysian Pauline Kael, Anolik does the same for the heady, distant Joan Didion and the easily past Dionysus all the way to Bacchus Eve Babitz. This book is not a high-blown literary assessment or simply a twined biography, but cultural criticism told in an engaging, gossipy tone in which Anolik often directly addresses the reader, sets us up for her methods, previews her structure, even offers two versions of one crucial event and then shrugs and says, “You decide.” Didion & Babitz reads as if you and Anolik were cozied up in a red leather booth at Musso & Frank Grill, dishing dirt over bone-dry martinis.

Congressman Salud Carbajal (CA) is one of nearly House Democrats co-sponsoring new legislation that would repeal an antiquated federal law that has been raised by conservative voices as the potential foundation for enacting a federal ban on abortion nationwide.
The legislation introduced by Rep. Carbajal and his colleagues in recent weeks would preempt any attempt to use the Comstock Act for a national abortion ban.
“The overturning of Roe v. Wade two years ago, which struck down a half-century of precedent, was a reminder that we cannot take any ‘settled law’ for granted when facing down the radical right’s war on reproductive rights. We must take their suggestions about reviving archaic laws at face value in the wake of a wave of abortion bans and restricted reproductive freedom across the U.S,” said Rep.
