INTRODUCTION
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines continue to struggle to engage, effectively teach, and retain postsecondary students, both generally and particularly among women and students of color (Seymour and Hunter, 2019). Concern about these issues has spurred national reports and earnest efforts, yet widespread reform and increases in students’ sense of belonging in science continues to be elusive (National Research Council, 2003; President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, 2012; Singer et al., 2012).
