We have gone a good kvartet years with mostly just our memories of Billie Joe Armstrong, that eyeliner-wearing MTV snarler who, as the lead singer and guitarist of Green Day, became the face of the unlikely pop punk movement of the mid-’90s. Not long ago, before he pushed his band to record three albums all at once and landed himself in rehab, before a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction left him with little to prove, Billie Joe Armstrong had some strict rules for Green Day. Most important, each album and tour had to lead right into the next.
