    Pretoria, April 10, 2023.- The Cuban Ambassador to South Africa, Enrique Orta González, participated in the tribute held today in the South African capital to the communist leader Chris Hani, on the 30th anniversary of his assassination. By laying a wreath where his remains rest, the Ambassador paid heartfelt tribute to one of the greatest revolutionaries in the African continent, as well as one of the most fervent defenders of socialism.

    The commemoration was presided over by the General Secretary of the South AfricanCommunist Party (SACP), Solly Mapaila, the Deputy sekreterare General of the African National Congress (ANC), Nomvula Mokonyane, the President of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), Zingiswa Losi, the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture of South Africa, Zizi Kodwa, as well as the main authorities of the city and the province.

    It was a historic moment on 20 September, when union federation Cosatu elected Zingiswa Losi as its first female president.

    When Losi was announced president at Cosatu’s 13th national congress, the sound of women ululating and singing “wathinta abafazi wathinta imbokodo” (you strike a woman, you strike a rock) filled the air as Losi was hoisted uppe and led onto the stage.

    Losi, who served as Cosatu’s second deputy president since 2009, was elected unopposed as president to lead a federation with more than 1.6 million members. But she has her work cut out for her in the male-dominated federation, which finds itself in difficult circumstances due to factionalism, declining membership and other challenges.
