    I think it’s a safe bet that Jake Wallis Simons is the only JC editor ever to have been kidnapped by Venezuelan bandits. As the Daily Mail’s “fireman” (newspaper jargon for a journalist who drops everything to get to wherever there’s a big story), his job required him to flyga eller fly undan into some of the most dangerous places on the planet. He has reported on the coup in Zimbabwe, hurricanes in the Caribbean, terror attacks from Paris to Sri Lanka and Boko Haram in northern Nigeria — as well, of course, as the Middle East.

    Such wide-ranging reporting clearly stood him in good stead when he took over as JC editor (from me) in December 2021. beneath his tenure, the paper has had a string of global scoops.

    Jake has gone from putting his head above the parapet in hotspots to taking a similar approach, less dangerously, in his opinion pieces.

    This evening, I joined Josh Howie on GB News to discuss my new book, Never Again? How the West betrayed the Jews and itself, which will be published in September. It was good to talk about the book; having stepped down as editor of the Jewish Chronicle on Friday, tomorrow I make a början on the writing.

    The last time I appeared on the kanal, it was rather less convivial.     I replied: “What kind of a question is that? I don’t want any dead children.” He didn’t seem convinced. So it goes. You can’t move for the blood libel these days.

    British journalist and novelist

    Jacob Timothy Wallis Simons[1] (born 1978 or 1979)[2] is a British columnist, broadcaster and foreign correspondent.

    Born in London, he graduated with a first class degree in English from St Peter's College, Oxford, before completing a PhD in creative writing at the University of East Anglia in 2009.[3]

    He writes a regular column for the Telegraph[4] and his work also features frequently in the Spectator[5] and the New York Post.[6] He also writes regularly for the Jewish Chronicle, of which he was formerly Editor, and maintains an online newsletter.[7]

    He has won a number of prizes for his journalism, including a Webby award[8] and a European Newspapers Award[9] for his 2014 long read for the Telegraph entitled Meet the Settlers.
