DAIM (German pronunciation:[daːiːm], like the coin dime; born 1971 as Mirko Reisser) is a German graffiti artist who lives and works in Hamburg. He is particularly known for his large-size, 3D-style graffiti works. This has become known as his trademark.[1] For his technically sophisticated style he obtained the reputation of being one of the best graffiti artists in the world.[2]
Works
[edit]In 1989, Reisser created his first works, still under the name CAZA in those days, which he kept until 1992.[2] He began doing commissioned pieces in 1990.[3] In 1991, right after he graduated from secondary school, Reisser began to work as a freelance artist and renamed himself DAIM. Handwriting is an enormously important cultural practice, a means for people to communicate and pass on knowledge and experience. The Understanding Written Artefacts (UWA) cluster brings together a broad community of researchers to analyse a variety of written artefacts, from 5,000 years ago right up to the present day. We spoke to some members of the cluster about their research.
The oldest surviving written artefacts in the world are thought to be Mesopotamian clay tablets dating from around 5,000 years ago, while handwriting is still being practiced today in a wide variety of forms. The team behind the Understanding Written Artefacts (UWA) research cluster, based at the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures (CSMC) at the University of Hamburg in Germany, are studying a diverse range of written artefacts from cultures across the world. EINE STADT WIRD BUNT: Unlocking the History of Tags
A graffiti exhibition is the last thing you would expect in a museum known for its archaic form and looming historical presence. Despite its novelty, the carefully curated “EINE STADT WIRD BUNT: Hamburg Graffiti History 1980-1999” is the Museum of Hamburg History’s highest-attended exhibit. With over 75,000 visitors since its opening in November 2022, the museum has extended its run until January 7th, 2024. The four curators of the exhibition, Oliver Nebel, Frank Petering, Mirko Reisser, and Andreas Timm, are graffiti writers who began their spraying careers in 1980s Hamburg.
