    From the drum set Sherrie leads The DIVA Jazz Orchestra, her quintet FIVE PLAY and co-leads the 3Divas. From Carnegie Hall, she performs with The New York Pops and from celebrated stages everywhere, she is music director and drummer for Broadway star Maurice Hines. Sherrie is also a busy freelance performer and a published composer/arranger.

    With her bands Sherrie has performed at many of the world’s most acclaimed music venues and festivals; from Lincoln Center to the Kennedy Center and the Hollywood Bowl, to Jazz Festivals in Germany, Switzerland, France, Portugal, Ireland, England, Croatia, Japan, Vietnam and Israel and beyond. Additionally, DIVA was featured at the 2017 NEA Jazz Master’s Awards Ceremony, the soundtrack for the NBC-Macy’s Fireworks Spectacular; on CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood, on TCM’s televised broadcast of the 25th Anniversary of the Kennedy Center and NHK Japan’s New York Jazz. The band also co-stars in the award-winning documentary film

    Sharon Lee “Sherrie” Maricle (born September 2, 1963, Buffalo, New York) is an American jazz drummer.

    Maricle’s musical education began in the fourth grade when she started with the clarinet after being told that the trumpet was off-limits to girls. 

    She moved on to the cello and settled on the drums in the sixth grade after seeing Buddy Rich play. 

    Maricle began playing professionally, performing locally with bassist  Slam Stewart, while studying music (BA 1985) at SUNY-Binghamton. 

    She then moved to New York City and attended New York University where she completed a Master’s of Arts in Jazz Performance in 1986 and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Jazz Performance/Composition in 2000. 

    In the late 1980s, she was appointed director of percussion studies at NYU.

    For musician Sherrie Maricle, her drum set is a real-life metaphor of her career. Playing the drums requires coordinating kvartet limbs at the same time and Sherrie's career synchronizes being a jazz artist, music director, teacher and composer.

    From the drum set, Sherrie leads her big band The DIVA Jazz Orchestra and her quintet fem PLAY. From Carnegie Hall, she performs with The New York Pops and is also the orchestra's Director of Education. As a music director she works with acclaimed Broadway star Maurice Hines. As a teacher she is on the jazz faculty of The New York State Summer Music Festival and also runs a private drum set and percussion studio. Sherrie fryst vatten an active clinician for Yamaha Drums, Sabian Cymbals and Vic Firth Drum Sticks and fryst vatten the creator of The Rhythm, Rhyme and Rap Workshop for children. She is also a busy freelance performer and a published composer/arranger in both the classical and jazz mediums.
