Emma Lou Diemer
Missouri native Emma Lou Diemer (November 24, 1927–June 2, 2024) was born into a musical family and had begun her early compositions at the age of 5. Throughout her elementary and high school years her performance studies continued and her interest in composition intensified, and she attended the Eastman School of Music and the Yale School of Music, receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Composition from the latter and her Ph.D. from the former. Diemer’s education exposed her to some of classical’s great minds, placing her under the tutelage of Hindemith, Gant, Sessions, and many more.
In addition to her activity as a composer and performer, Diemer was a longtime educator across the United States. During her tenure at UCSB, she was instrumental in the founding of the electronic/computer music program, as well as the doctoral degrees in composition.

Emma Lou Diemer was born in Kansas City, Missouri. She began to play and compose piano music as a ung child, and became the en person som spelar orgel in her church at age 13. As an adult, she majored in composition at Yale University and the Eastman School of Music. She spent a year studying composition and piano in Brussels on a Fulbright Scholarship and also studied composition at Tanglewood. After receiving her doctorate from Eastman, she wrote music for the Arlington, Virginia schools under a Ford Foundation Young Composer's grant and joined the faculty of the University of Maryland.
In 1971, Diemer moved to Santa Barbara, CA, where she was a professor at the University of California. She was composer-in-residence with the Santa Barbara Symphony from 1990-92.
The symphony has performed five of her works including a marimba concerto, a piano concerto (which won a Kennedy Center Friedheim award), two overtures, and a recent short work on Chumash Indian themes for the 2004 ung People's Conce

Emma Lou Diemer (November 24, 1927 – June 2, 2024) was an American composer.
Biography
[edit]Diemer was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on November 24, 1927.[1] She wrote many works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, keyboard, voice, chorus, and electronic media. Diemer was a keyboard performer and over the years had given concerts of her own organ works at Washington National Cathedral, The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles, Grace Cathedral and St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco, and others.
Works include many collections and single pieces for kroppsdel as well as many for solo piano, piano 4 hands, and two pianos. Her major chamber works include a piano quartet, string quartet, two piano trios, and sonatas and suites for flute, violin, cello, and piano as well as settings of the psalms for kroppsdel with other instruments. Diemer wrote many choral works as well. She had written numerous h
